Lavender

5 Herbs Every Gardener Should Grow

There are just some herbs that I can’t live without! I hold a firm belief that anyone that digs in dirt would enjoy having each of these herbs.

My list of 5 must-have herbs are:

Lavender
Rosemary
Oregano
Lemmon Thyme
Basil

Lavender has been knowns for it’s stress-reducing properties for centuries and it really does work! The funny thing about Lavender is when you mention it, usually someone pops up and says, “I love Lavender”. Everyone does. Its uses span the entire Herb world, from garden, to culinary, to craft and back to it’s medicinal stress-relieving properties.

Rosemary is a soulful herb and one that any cook shouldn’t be without. I always have fresh Rosemary to use in my kitchen – I wouldn’t even know what to do if it were dried. I love to walk by a Rosemary plant and run my hands over the needles – the scent stays on my fingers for a long time. It’s fabulous aroma therapy, especially if you’ve found yourself inside most of the day.

Oregano is so easy to grow, it makes Italian cooking a snap and so fresh tasting.

Lemon Thyme is such a fun little plant that has these tiny variegated green and yellow leaves. Just snip a few off, chop and add to anything from salads to sautéed chicken

Basil is a sign that summer is really here. Because it’s a tender annual, you can’t plant it until the night time temperatures don’t go below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. You can use it in anything! But… Pesto. Do we need to say more? Yum!
